Eye analysis: how Facet scores your eyes

Last updated: May 22, 2026

Facet's eyes module currently scores canthal tilt in degrees, the angle of the line between the inner and outer corners of the eye. Canthal tilt is measured against Sadick gender-typical ranges, where positive tilt (outer corner higher than inner) is the aesthetic ideal. Additional eye parameters (palpebral fissure length, palpebral fissure height, MRD1, intercanthal distance, radial inter-canthal distance) require a more complete CV pipeline and are deferred to V3.

Why this matters

Eye geometry drives more of perceived attractiveness than almost any other facial feature. A positive canthal tilt of 5 to 10 degrees is universally rated as more attractive across cultures, gender, and age in controlled studies. Conversely, negative canthal tilt (outer corner below inner) is one of the most flagged features in pre-procedure aesthetic consultations. Eye region surgery (canthoplasty, blepharoplasty) is among the most-requested cosmetic procedures globally.

What your eyes score means

Score bandMeaning
8.0 to 10Excellent. Canthal tilt within the gender-typical optimal range.
6.5 to 7.9Good. Canthal tilt within 2 degrees of ideal.
5.0 to 6.4Average. Canthal tilt neutral or slightly off ideal.
3.5 to 4.9Below average. Negative canthal tilt or significantly off range.
0 to 3.4Significant negative canthal tilt. Aesthetic consultation may be relevant.

How to improve your eyes score

  • For mild negative canthal tilt, brow shaping (lifting the tail of the brow) creates the visual impression of a more positive tilt.
  • Concealer application that brightens the outer canthus area creates the same visual lift effect.
  • For structural negative tilt, lateral canthoplasty is the relevant clinical procedure. Consult a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon for assessment.
  • Sleep position matters: chronic side-sleeping on one side can compound asymmetric eye area aging. Try back-sleeping when possible.
  • Protect the periorbital area with daily SPF, retinoid at night (low concentration starting), and gentle handling. The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the face.

Frequently asked

What is canthal tilt and why does it matter?+

Canthal tilt is the angle of the line drawn between the inner corner (medial canthus) and outer corner (lateral canthus) of the eye. Positive tilt (outer corner higher than inner) of about 5 to 10 degrees is the cross-cultural aesthetic ideal. Negative tilt (outer corner lower) reads as tired or sad and is one of the most flagged features in pre-procedure consultations.

Can you change canthal tilt without surgery?+

You cannot change the structural canthal tilt non-surgically. You can change the visual impression of canthal tilt through brow shaping (especially the brow tail), concealer application, eye makeup, and eyebrow positioning. Lateral canthoplasty is the relevant procedure for structural change.

Why doesn't Facet measure more eye parameters?+

Several clinically relevant eye parameters (palpebral fissure length and height, MRD1, intercanthal distance, RICD) require CV passes that Facet has not yet built. Canthal tilt is the single most important eye parameter and is included. The rest are on the V3 roadmap.

Is canthal tilt measured the same way for everyone?+

Yes. The measurement methodology is the same. The thresholds for what counts as 'positive' or 'negative' are gender-typical (the Sadick ranges differ slightly for males and females).
